On 24 September 2016 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Sirodjidin Aslov has delivered a statement at the general debates of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.
Speaking on the current state of international peace and security, Minister Aslov has stressedupon the need to address the growing threats of armed conflicts, terrorism and extremism through consistently seeking for new ways, in order to restore stability and thereby to ensure the sustainable development.
Minister Aslov has called for expanding a targeted assistance to Afghanistan aimed at economic rehabilitation, strengthening of the social sphere and has noted that the power transmission line of CASA-1000, the construction of which was started last May, is a vivid proof of Tajikistan’s readiness to take part in rehabilitation of Afghanistan.
Presenting the position of the Republic of Tajikistan on the global development agenda, Sirodjidin Aslov underlined the necessity to render support to the countries with special needs, including the least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and small island developing states (SIDS). Minister Aslov has noted that in considering the sustainable development issues the priority attention has to be attached to the water and climate change problems.
